A Farewell to Arm

Yesterday I took Charlotte to the pediatrician, fully expecting that they would take off her splint and send us home.

They took off the splint, but then they put it back on. Her elbow was still very swollen and kinda wonky-looking. First thing this morning we went to see the orthopedist.

The word is that because Charlotte’s bones are still soft and her growth plates haven’t formed, she is in danger of the injury becoming a break if it’s not treated aggressively.

So “aggressive” comes in the form of a cool purple cast for three to four weeks.

It will come as no surprise to any of you that she handled the whole thing like a pro. She was excited about the cast, and watched the whole process with a bit of fascination and amusement. And she hasn’t slowed down since we got home. My only worry now is that she may wallop her brother in the face with the thing.

Charlotte would also like to know if Ethan and Annabelle would like to start an official “I’ve Had Open-Heart Surgery and I’ve Had  a Cast, Too!” club. She’s willing to negotiate who gets to be president.

Now be gone! Go enjoy your Saturday!
