Thoughts on Wrath {Part 1}

So I have been mulling over this idea of wrath for a long time now. I have to admit that as a person who lives this side of Calvary, it can be very hard to wrap my mind around what the wrath of God really looks and feels like. {Thank God for Calvary, so that I never have to know what it feels like!}
Why should we even care about wrath? Well, I don’t think we can have a true appreciation of what was done for us on the Cross if we don’t have at least some idea of that from which we were spared. When we speak of Jesus bearing the weight of our sin, and paying the price for our sin, we are talking about God’s wrath; that is the weight and the cost of our sin. We should not take it lightly.
I have heard several analogies over the years that try to explain the wrath of God poured out on His son for our sins. Those analogies do help, but it can still be difficult to really understand. I mentioned a while back that I had been reading through Hosea, and I want to share some thoughts from Hosea that have helped me understand this a little better.
I am going to be writing a few posts about Hosea and the wrath of God in the next week or so, but for today I just want to share an introduction of sorts by way of a video. I have shared a video for the song All I Have is Christ on here before, but a few weeks ago a friend posted an animation of the same song. There is a scene in the animation that is such a beautiful picture of Jesus enduring God’s wrath for us…

So I hope you will take some time today to watch the whole video. Just sit and watch and be blessed in knowing that we never have to experience the wrath of God poured out on us.
Thank you Jesus, for taking that unspeakable pain for us!
My prayer for this upcoming series on wrath is that we would no longer be “indifferent to the cost.”

my favorite screen shot from the whole video!! Can’t wait to read the series.
Funny – I was going to say that I thought Friday was perfectly appropriate and then go on about Good Friday. But you did it for me.
Thanks for that Meredith! “Good Friday” never entered my brain…
I thought you kinda did in paragraph 2.
