Thanks for stopping by the blog!  We are excited to share with you a little bit of our family and our journey in a new place.

You may be wondering why we have a new blog, and why we came to Maryland in the first place.

Well, the blog part is easy- it was past time for me to consolidate into one blog for family and kid stuff. And what better time to start a new blog than when we are starting a new adventure?  Also, there were some technical issues with the old site that I was tired of messing with.  The A New Day blog will remain up for a while until I decide what to do with it, but all of the new updates will be here.

Now as for the Maryland question, that’s a little more complicated.  I know it seems like we came up in a hurry, but in reality the decision was almost a year in the making.  In a nutshell, Tim was invited up to interview for a job by his former boss.  This particular person was always so great at seeing Tim’s potential, even when he was the youngest and the newest guy in the group. Also, the job and the new co-workers seemed like they would be a great fit for Tim. And we prayed a lot.  Did we ever pray!  And we really had such a sweet peace about the whole thing.

The funny thing is that Tim and I have said on more than one occasion that we never wanted to move any farther north than Raleigh.   And that just goes to show that you should be careful about using words like “always” and “never,” since that tends to imply that we know more about the future than God.

As for the name of the blog, I thought the combination of the words “refining” and “redefining” were perfect descriptions for what God has been doing in our lives and in our family.  I feel like we have been in a constant state of refinement over the past few years, although sometimes the heat has been hotter than at other times. And we are excited to use this move to redefine some things for our family- what home looks like, what our priorities are, what’s necessary and what’s just taking up space and time…

Tim and I really have a deep desire to follow God wherever He calls, and we both heard Him calling us to a new adventure. For now the adventure is coming to us by way of a new job in Maryland, but we don’t for one second think this is the last stop. I can’t tell you how many times The Great Adventure by Steven Curtis Chapman has popped into my head lately.  So here we are, following Him into the glorious unknown, giddy about a life like no other!

Saddle up!

  2. Hi Jenn,

I saw you comment on Challies blog and I decided to click. I love the name of your blog and completely relate, so that drew me in. Just thought I would let you know that I popped in and am going to spend a little time checking it out. 😉

grace and peace to you and your family,

  3. My name is Laurie and I am Jean Metcalf’s sister-in-law. We as a family are so excited that Charlotte’s surgery went well, our God is an awesome God and we know He has a great plan and purpose for your sweet daughter, as He is using already in ways even you cannot see. My granddaughter Paislyn has HRHS and just had her second surgery at Mott’s Childrens in Ann Arbor. She too is a precious gift and God has used her story to strengthen the faith of others. I am so excited this surgery is over for you all. God’s Blessings to dear Charlotte and your family. You all will continue to be in our prayers.
